In this collection, Vinnie’s story “Critical Mass” takes place in the tourist destination of Santa Cruz.
First off, let my announce that I am biased about this book. I have a story in it and that makes me a writer. But I am first and foremost a reader. What’s not to like about Rosemary McCracken taking you along to Ireland to foil a clever plot? Or what happens in Santa Cruz, CA when Vinnie Hansen gets hold of a literary agent. Sweet senior citizen who just loves to travel? Don’t believe it. Then there’s a chilling story about a dying don by Dennis Pallumbo, need I tempt you more? How ’bout Brenda Seabrooke’s story of a painter and ghosts in “Murder in the Middle of the Battlefield.”
Sixteen stories in different places of the world, ending with Herschel Cozine and his Where Have You Gone?. This will stay with you a while. Oh, and yes, “To Put A Monster In Its Place” takes you to not one, but two California lakes. The monster is a plus.–JoAnne Lucas

Santa Cruz Noir
“Though many of these stories are more interested in evoking a voice or mood than pursuing a plot to its conclusion, Vinnie Hansen’s “Miscalculation” provides a textbook example of how many twists can fit into the simple tale of a bank teller’s adventures with the Guitar Case Bandit.”
