Portlandia Post Mortem

In the past I’ve had another person maintain my site, hence the third person voice. But here goes *deep breath* my attempt to do it myself in first person.

For me part of the fun of a conference is to see the venue. I’d never been to Portland. The first day I arrived, it was sunny, so I seized the day and walked about four miles from the hotel to Powell’s Books and back. I’m glad I did, as all the other days were overcast.

You never know who you might meet or what crazy experiences you might have. Portlander sister Cindy Brown scouts conferences for places to hide bodies. After Saturday’s breakfast, I volunteered to be her “body” stuffed into a lectern.

Me playing "dead body" with Rosebud-nominated author Lisa Alber appearing shocked. All those years of yoga have their practical applications!

Loved my panel Lovely, Dark & Deep: What Makes a Literary Mystery?

From left to right: John Addiego, whose wonderful The Jaguar Tree I am currently reading; Jennifer Bosworth, the only author I know who arrived at her panel with a glass of whiskey; the amazingly successful Deborah Reed; Bruce Alexander Memorial Historical Mystery Award nominee Susanna Calkins, and me.

Saturday evening I had the honor of co-hosting a banquet table with Terry Shames, who not only writes Macavity Award winning mysteries, but also knows how to decorate a table!

Very festive, wouldn't you agree?

I met Jim Jackson. On May 5, I will be his guest on My 2 Cents Worth.

Conferences also provide the opportunity to rub shoulders (literally) with the movers and shakers! Here I am with Sisters in Crime President Catriona McPherson.

Hobnobbing with the elite!

For a break from dead bodies, we could bop over to the Cat Fanciers competition in the other part of the hotel.
