All those acronyms! SinC (Sisters in Crime) and AAUW (American Association of University Women) are two simpatico organizations. The AAUW’s mission is to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research. The Sisters in Crime mission is to promote the ongoing advancement, recognition and professional development of women crime writers.
It’s no wonder AAUW often invites SinC to present at its meetings. On Saturday (2/25/17), Mary Feliz, Katherine Hyde, and I, all members of the Northern California Chapter of Sisters in Crime, had the pleasure of presenting at a tri-county meeting of AAUW held at the Boyonet & Black Horse in Seaside, CA.
What could be better than mingling with a large group (70+) savvy women! Each of us shared parts of our writing process and experience as well as information about our respective series.
Mary Feliz writes a cozy series, featuring professional organizer Maggie McDonald. Katherine Hyde incorporates literature in her Emily Cavanaugh books that debuted with Arsenic and Austen. And readers here already know my Carol Sabala Mystery series. But do watch for my stand-alone, Lostart Street, a novel of mystery, manslaughter & moonbeams, set to release from misterio press in May. Although the novel will contain elements of mystery, I definitely consider Lostart Street a book that belongs on the general fiction rather than mystery shelves of the bookstore.
In the meantime, I’m off the Left Coast Crime in Hawaii.
